Gurpreet Singh waraich, famously known as Gurpreet ghuggi, was born on 19 June 1971 in Gurdaspur, Punjab. A native of Khokhar Faujian village, located in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, Gurpreet Ghuggi was born and raised in Jalandhar as his family had moved to Jalandhar before his birth for setting up a business. He is married and has two children. Ghuggi’s career began with his appearance in several theatrical plays. In the 1990s, he got his break on television when he was cast in the comedic series, Ronak Mela. After Ronak Mela, Ghuggi had lead roles on the soap opera Parchhaven, playing a serious character, as well as on several shows, including Ghuggi Express and Ghuggi On Line. Ghuggi’s debut film role was in the romantic drama Jee Aayan Nu, in which he played a travel agency associate’s role. Released in 2002, the movie went direct-to-video.

Soon after, he became a cast member of several films, including a breakthrough in 2015, when he was given the opportunity to play the lead role in Ardaas. His involvement in the film earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (critics). Ghuggi, a household name in Punjab, has been working in the entertainment industry for more than three decades. He has appeared in a number of Punjabi films like ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ (2005) and ‘Carry On Jatta’ (2012). He has also played roles in a few Bollywood films including Dharmendra Starrer ‘Apne’ (2007) and Akshay Kumar’s action-comedy film ‘Singh Is King.’ (2008) Alongside being a comic actor , he is also a  politician. The actor-comedian has also enjoyed the stature of a politician as a convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party for its Punjab unit from September 2016 to May 2017.
